“The biggest problem in the universe is that nobody helps each other.” We watched Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace with Star Wars superfan Nikolas Romero and we have a bad feeling about this. It’s a tale as old as time… taxation of trade routes, arguments on the senate floor, you know - kid stuff. The script may have it’s problems but we have a special place in our hearts for this endearing, while flawed, scifi classic. Maybe the political intrigue goes on a bit too long but this movie did bestow onto the world Natalie Portman’s Queen Amidala and her killer wardrobe, super-dreamy Ewan McGregor as young Obi-Wan Kenobi and Liam Neeson serving in that lace-front as grizzled Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Do we have an extensive Star Wars memorabilia collection? Yes. Is part of that collection numerous Queen Amidala Fashion dolls? Absolutely. Do we agree on who exactly is the Phantom Menace? Not at all.
