"What's so good about you guys?" We watched The Family Stone (2005) with our friend Jackson Cooper and listeners, you owe us one. Nothing says "sentimental holiday classic" like judgemental, mean-spirited WASPs terrorizing Sarah Jessica Parker for 90 minutes. Being the odd-man-out at a family gathering can be intimidating - like starting at a new job where everyone as been working there for years, you feel like a new character added middway through a long-running sitcom. It can be even harder when the family members team up against your for the sin of wearing business attire at home. Listen, there are some fun performances here - God bless Luke Wilson in gray sweatpants, and Elizabeth Reaser is also there. Okay okay, we won't fault the actors performances for the characters being rotted. Maybe we can forgive Diane Keaton for being, shall we say, irritable - since her character is terminally ill - but you have to admit, sometimes she comes off as just plain mean. Now, Christmas movies have an effect on us and this one is no different. We won't begrudge you an annual re-watch of The Family Stone if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Just know we're judging you as harshly as the Stone family judges Meredith Morton (SJP) for being so horrible as to wear high heels and a bun outside of business hours.
