It’s like Jurassic Park but with Tornadoes. We watched Twister (1996) with the awesome Jessica Granger and Amy Fox (ep 20 Never Been Kissed) and we always knew there was something about that Helen Hunt. Gay boys and girls across the land can all agree, Hunt as storm chaser Dr. Jo Harding definitely turned us gay. From her utilitarian wardrobe, to her trusty pickup (an ‘82 Jeep HONCHO?!) we always knew Jo was playing on our team. Whether or not the filmmakers knew they were creating a queer benchmark, Twister has gained a life of its own with gay people of a certain age. There may not be a tee shirt on the hallowed walls of Hot Topic, but this 90’s gem shaped young queer minds everywhere.
