Movies That Made Us Gay

Dec 17, 2021

“It’s always a business doing pleasure with you!” We watched The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) with our friend Ben Cheaves and we need to pick up one of them Japanese sling shots.  Dolly Parton and Mr. Burt Reynolds boot scoot and boogie their way across the screen in this country fried musical from the director of “9 to 5”, Colin Higgins.  Burt’s sheriff drag and Dolly’s saloon madame couture are pretty queer but you are not truly gay until you have seen a room full of 1980’s male ballet dancers having a hoedown in a football locker room in nothing but jock straps and cowboy boots. The ladies of The Chicken Ranch are equally fabulous sporting looks as varied as classic country lady of the evening, disco diva and Pat Benatar realness.  Truly a sight to behold.  Move over “The Bodyguard” because this movie closes out with I Will Always Love You as sung by the original Dolly Parton herself.  “It was the nicest little whorehouse you ever saw!”
