Movies That Made Us Gay

Sep 18, 2020

NYC’s Meat Packing District has a long way to go until Samantha Jones moves in. We watched Cruising (1980) with returning guest Mike Toscano and we’re still clutching our pearls!  This infamous movie follows Al Pacino as a police officer who goes undercover in the gay leather & S&M scene in early 80’s era New York City.  What we get is a snapshot of a gay subculture from a long-gone time, when all we had to worry about was serial killers, getting busted for walking in front of the wrong bar and getting roughed up by giant muscle men in jock straps in the interrogation room.  Director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The Boys in the Band) is up to his old tricks - inserting “subliminal” frames of adult films into the murder scenes! Pacino learning about the hanky code should be required viewing for gays of every age - know your history people!
